I noticed a lack of MLP-style-in-Inkscape tutorials on dA ... also, my bf mentioning (somewhat in passing) a desire to give Inkscape a try. In the interests of getting him and YOU to draw some ponies, I threw this humble tutorial together.
Skill level is beginner+, all you need to do is read this and download Inkscape if you haven't already [link] and you'll be ready to go! This is a complete walkthrough, including Inkscape basics!
So, to any Inkscape newbies or aspiring pony-makers who stumble across this tutorial - I hope you get some use out of it.
To ~cptlfrghtr - YOU BETTER GET SOME USE OUT OF IT. u__u
I assume you mean a pen-input graphics tablet? If so, yes it can be used with a graphics tablet (I use my Wacom Bamboo in Inkscape from time to time, for instance), however the nature of vector art makes it less suited to a pen-tablet then, say, GIMP or Photoshop.
The opposite, actually. A pen-input tablet is pretty much necessary for working in Photoshop or GIMP. But usually, it's easy to get by in Inkscape with only a keyboard and a mouse.
The only time when a graphics tablet is helpful (or necessary) in Inkscape is when working with the freehand or calligraphy tools.
Ahahaha! Not to worry, I've had quite a few bronie friends (my boyfriend included) remind me how similar my name is to "Cadance". (Heck, they even have all the same letters, just in a different order).
Great tutorial! Thank you!
