One Fine Morning by BellaCielo One Fine Morning by BellaCielo
Colored version of this sketch!

I'm inordinately happy (borderline giddy) with this one. For starters it's not every day I'm orders-of-magnitude more pleased with the lineart than the original sketch. Secondly, I very nearly gave up on the coloring when I realized that the shading didn't look right, but managed to recognize the problem — inconsistent shadows and not enough contrast between the shaded and sunlit areas — and fix it. Not to mention being able to paint a half-decent background from reference images. Heck yes progress.

And I continue to make good on my resolution to pollute the internets with yuri science children art. [villainous laughter intensifies]

These two belong to cptlfrghtr and myself.
Title chosen with apologies to Lighthouse (because absolutely nothing says sapphic Bostonian computers like peppy 1970s Canadian rock!)

No worries! I tend to tag all my works pretty well, so if there's something in specific you're looking for it can probably be found. ^^

I like this piece though I must say, her dress should hang more loosely off of her dress a dress like the lovely one she is wearing wouldn't tighten only around her belly and fall like how it did, other then that I really like this piece its a very nice one I love the emotion the ladies are displaying here you can tell that they are deeply in love and that they can't wait for the little one to arrive!

Thank you for the critique! I admit I took a few liberties with the fabric physics to highlight the shape of her form and avoid the dreaded shapeless-circus-tent-dress look. With more practice perhaps I'll be able to accurately represent form without having to rely on visual "shorthands" like these.

Glad I was able to convey their emotions, that's exactly the mood I was going for!

I understand that, to be honest if you wanted to show that she is pregnant with out having a tent dress appearance I probably would've shown her in a shirt and yoga pants or a low fitting on the stomach skirt. I'm glad that you appreciated the critic its hard to give constructive criticism sometimes :)

Holy yikes. Normally I'd be making tiny autonomic-sounding noises about the content but the shading in this is really something else. It's like you've passed the technological singularity of lighting models or something. I am solidly and thoroughly impressed.

I'm thrilled you think so! Sometimes I question whether my skills are progressing as much as I think (it's happened before, a lot), so it's encouraging to have positive feedback in this regard!

As for passing a point of singularity, it does feel like I've reached a stage where I'm able to somewhat consistently conceptualize how light and shadow should fall on 3D objects (or rather 2D depictions thereof), as well as notice when things go wrong and figure out ways to fix them. It's difficult to put into words, exactly, but I feel as though I'm starting make decisions based more on observation and logic and less on all those artistic biases I've accumulated over the years (for better or worse). In this sense, I'm learning to act less on what makes me feel safe and comfortable and more what I think looks right ... and things have never looked better to me. Somehow.

God I hope that made even the slightest sense. It's late and my sleepy rambling is not known to be particularly intelligible.

It's also good to hear the content is to your liking as well! I lost it at "tiny autonomic-sounding noises", ahaha.

nice work. they look like they wish to kiss. do the lovely ladies have a backstory? ie is tg/gender bending involved, and what about a babies dad/ seed donor?

You're looking at both mothers, they're a married couple. The story universe they belong to is an alternate timeline earth (sorta) where various technological objects have humanoid form and advanced magitech is (more or less) commonplace. Among these, rather sophisticated genetic engineering and the scientific know-how to perform female/female fertilization - for their species at least. (There's also asexual reproduction, cloning, artificially grown offspring and at least a few cases of 3+ parent reproduction but that's neither here nor there.)

S'what you get for a species that has a massively imbalanced sex ratio, de facto matriarchy, absurdly advanced technology and magic, and a creator with a fondness for female/female pregnancy...

They aren't both expecting. I said they were both mothers to their single unborn daughter.
