Ubuntu-tan Portrait by BellaCielo Ubuntu-tan Portrait by BellaCielo
I thought it was about time to draw my favorite Linux distro -tan again. :) Did some experimenting with coloring techniques here, trying a softer, more painterly shading style instead of my usual cell-shading inspired technique ... I'm happy with the results, but not sure if I should have added more pronounced highlights on her skin and hair.

Pencil sketch, Photoshop CS4

Very appropriate since Ubuntu is an African word :-)

That's right. As well, the actual operating system is developed in South Africa. : )

I never knew about being developed in South Africa, but certainly explains the name :-)

A really nice painting, you've captured a kindness and friendliness that the Ubuntu community strives for.

Thanks. I've always imagined Ubuntu-tan as having a sort of kindness and accessibility that's rare among modern OS-tans, I'm glad I was able to capture that spirit here. :)

I wish I saw more art of her. I like how elegant you make her look.

I really ought to draw her more often, but I usually get sidetracked with the really old OS-tans and put off drawing the newer ones... :z

*cmitchrunner makes a really nice Ubuntu-tan too, in case you haven't seen his design already - [link]

I like it! The softer style definitely suits her... though I think you may have made her neck a tad too long. ^^;

Yeah, I noticed the problem with her neck and ended up being too lazy to fix it. Although i was thinking it was more of a width problem (being too thin) than being too long... ^^'
